Greek gods and Hindu gods-By KIRAN KUMAR CHALAPAKA

The list of ancient Greek Gods and Hindu gods was very interesting. I think
most would probably compare Indra with Zeus as both threw thunder bolts.
Indra being the king of the Vedic gods like Zeus. The name Zeus is also
related to the sanscit Devas I believe etymologically. Mitra of course
became Mithra, popular god at the time of the rise of Christianity and
probably greatly influence the birth of Christ date as well as the
Communion ceremony. One can easily see that at one time time probably
during the Vedic period there was definitiely a connection between Iranian
Avesta gods and the Vedic gods, and the ancient Greeks pantheon likely was
an off shoot or derived from the Vedic period, which goes to say that due
to the similarities of Indo European languages which have been well
documented, we are at least cousins.

All the religions have the same source !
( bible -> by-bal -> by Ba'al( Enki))
( quran -> Qur-an / Anu )

Many of the compared characters/ incidents might have happened at one place and then implanted into another culture for their benefit.
thats wats the actual story of gods!!! lol
When more ancient Indian documents are translated, this smokey idea will probably become clear. For example. in the Autobiography of Leonardo Pisano (Fibonacci) he makes a comment that "the art of Pythagoras" was a mistake in comparison to the "method of the Hindus". No one actually knows what Fibonacci ment by that, but scholars think he was alluding to ancient knowledge flowed from the Hindu toward that Greeks.
it is indeed true that once we delve deeper we would find that gods in different religion have similarities, which indicates that somewhere all religions originated from the same core idea.

Using detailed topographic information from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission, Curtin’s Western Australian School of Mines (WASM) spatial scientists, Dr Christian Hirt and Professor Will Featherstone, were able to reveal the fine structure of the Moon’s gravity field in brand new detail.
Dr Hirt, who calculated the new gravity maps, said that the findings showed existing gravity models neglected approximately 50 per cent of the lunar gravity signal.
“The Moon’s gravitational pull is about one-sixth of the Earth’s. Our new lunar gravity map now shows, for the first time, how the pull of gravity changes from location to location over the rugged surface of the Moon,” Dr Hirt said.
“This reveals features of the lunar gravity field, including pockmark signatures, showing gravity accelerations are higher at the bottom of impact craters than the elevated crater rim, and revealing the strength and variation of gravity acceleration over the entire surface of the Moon.”
Dr Hirt said the research to improve gravity field maps for the Moon came from an approach that was successfully tested on Earth and could also be used for other solid planetary bodies.
Dr Hirt and Professor Featherstone’s research findings were recently published in the prestigious journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters (Issue 1. May 2012, Vol. 329-330, pages 22-30).
This work has been funded by the Australian Research Council.

An international study involving a University of Adelaide researcher has produced surprising results about one of the most enduring mysteries in physics - the origin of cosmic rays.

First discovered 100 years ago, cosmic rays are electrically charged particles, such as protons, that strike Earth from all directions, with energies up to 100 million times higher than those created in man-made accelerators.

Physicists have focused their interest on two potential sources: the massive black holes at the centre of active galaxies, and the exploding fireballs observed by astronomers as gamma ray bursts.

The IceCube Neutrino Observatory, a massive detector in Antarctica, is exploring these theories by studying neutrinos, which are believed to accompany cosmic ray production.

Dr Gary Hill, ARC Future Fellow with the University of Adelaide's School of Chemistry & Physics, is a member of the IceCube collaboration. He has spent seven Antarctic summers working on the IceCube observatory and has lived and worked in Antarctica 12 times in the past 15 years.

In a paper published today in the journal Nature, the IceCube collaboration describes a search for neutrinos emitted from 300 gamma ray bursts (GRBs) observed between May 2008 and April 2010.

Surprisingly, they have found no evidence of neutrinos - a result that contradicts 15 years of predictions.

"This is the most important result so far from the IceCube observatory," says Dr Hill. "Gamma ray bursts don't seem to make neutrinos as we previously thought, which means they probably aren't making cosmic rays either.

"This result has implications for other experiments around the world, including experiments like the Auger cosmic ray observatory that researchers in Adelaide are involved in, and will help to focus the search for the origin of cosmic rays even further."

IceCube spokesperson and University of Maryland physics professor Greg Sullivan says the IceCube observatory is the first instrument "with sufficient sensitivity to open a new window on cosmic ray production and the interior processes of GRBs".

"The unexpected absence of neutrinos from GRBs has forced a re-evaluation of the theory for production of cosmic rays and neutrinos in a GRB fireball and possibly the theory that high-energy cosmic rays are generated in fireballs," Professor Sullivan says.

Principal investigator and University of Wisconsin-Madison physics professor Francis Halzen says: "Although we have not discovered where cosmic rays come from, we have taken a major step towards ruling out one of the leading predictions."

Background - about IceCube and gamma ray bursts

Completed in December 2010, IceCube is a high-energy neutrino telescope at the geographical South Pole in Antarctica, operated by a collaboration of 250 physicists and engineers from the USA, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Barbados.

IceCube observes neutrinos by detecting the faint blue light produced in neutrino interactions in ice. Neutrinos are of a ghostly nature; they can easily travel through people, walls, or the planet Earth. To detect their interactions, IceCube is built on an enormous scale: 5160 optical sensors embedded up to 2.5 kilometres deep in the ice, spanning one cubic kilometre of glacial ice.

GRBs, the universe's most powerful explosions, are usually first observed by satellites using X-rays and/or gamma rays. GRBs are seen about once per day, and are so bright that they can be seen from half way across the visible Universe. The explosions usually last only a few seconds, and during this brief time they can outshine everything else in the universe.

Improved understanding and more data from the complete IceCube detector will help scientists better understand the mystery of cosmic ray production.

Determining the habitability of rocky, Earth-like planets in the universe will be crucial for us as a species, according to scientists from The Australian National University.

But the good news is that these planets are probably more abundant than stars, researchers from the ANU Planetary Science Institute have discovered. The institute is a joint venture of the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics and the Research School of Earth Sciences.

“Determining whether these planets are habitable has become the new holy grail of astronomy,” said planetary scientist Dr Charley Lineweaver, lead author of the study.

“The new-found abundance of planets, combined with the much larger range of inhabited terrestrial environments suggests that habitable planets are common. This increases the probability of finding some kind of extraterrestrial life,” he said.

Fellow researcher and PhD student Aditya Chopra said our best estimates of habitability come from the planet we know best: Earth.

“By comparing the inhabited and uninhabited regions of Earth, we can identify the most important factors that determine habitability. For terrestrial life, those factors are liquid water, a narrow range of temperature, and an energy source,” he said.

Dr Lineweaver added: “Habitability is not just a question of abiotic environmental conditions – the presence of life may be required to maintain the habitability of a planet over billions of years. The study of the habitability of other Earths is the major focus of astrobiology – and increasingly planetary science and astronomy.

“Planetary habitability is a complex and confusing concept that we are only beginning to get our heads around, but as a species that wants to survive, it is in our interest to get our heads around it soon.”

The research has been published in the paper, "The Habitability of Our Earth and Other Earths: Astrophysical, Geochemical, Geophysical, and Biological Limits on Planet Habitability", online in the Annual Reviews of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
